What is being awake if not interpreting our dreams, or dreaming if not...
– Everything is Illuminated
Pink on white end of January sunrise = hope for the a new season… a new year, even the same old freeway on offramps felt a little different yesterday. So much good is coming, I can feel it. <3
Gay parents encourage rebellion, there are studies that show that.

(thank god for my gay parent)
I woke up late. 2 hours late. I didn’t go clean and went back to bed to try recover the 4 or so hours I missed laying awake staring at the ceiling.
I felt rushed and scattered and awful and got to the rehearsal hall 15 minutes later than I would have liked.
But then it was empty, and I took a deep breath. And Ed was the first person to walk through the door. Hurrah for familiarity. and...
Rehearsals start tomorrow. I have to be up by 7 to clean one of my houses first. I was sound asleep when my senile cat came and woke me up. Now I can’t sleep. Why am I always wide awake the night before a big big day like tomorrow. Ugh. I hope this doesn’t happen too often on the road.

“When someone loves you for a long, long time… REALLY loves you, then you become Real. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real, you can’t be ugly.”

Mmm. Clean sheets. Best thing ever.
This.
While I cleaned someone else’s gross kitchen. Thank you NPR and Miss Jessica Klein
(it was inevitable that I would eventually have to take a wee bit of time off from the CBC to discover that good music is still being made in other parts of the world.)
I have fucked up a lot of things in this life. Even in this year, and this thing, this precarious may not even happen thing, I’m not going to fuck up. I promise.
That was my decision of the day.

I’m just not feeling The Arcade Fire’s Suburbs like I did Funeral. I realize its the top album of 2010 on every list there is, but I guess its just not 2005 anymore, and I am no longer 23.
(and I’ll never see the Bell Orchestre play Darren Miller’s typewriter on stage in Calgary while Lysh sells their merch in the hall and turn down going out to party with them again. So I...

It is definitely January.
Sorrow found me when I was young, Sorrow waited, sorrow won. Sorrow that put me on the pills, It’s in my honey, it’s in my milk. Don’t leave my hyper heart alone On the water, Cover me in rag and bones, sympathy. Cause I don’t wanna get over you. I don’t wanna get over you. Sorrows my body on the waves Sorrows a girl inside my...

The Ruffles ranch dip used to come in a can. Now it comes in a glass jar. The glass jar is better because it has way more dip and you can tell when you are running low.
However, I hate it when the dip gets too low and in order to put your chip in you end up with dip all over the side of your hand.
I am happy that tonight that is all I can think to worry about.

I am almost done reading Fear and Loathing. And am now really regretting not ordering Everything is Illuminated earlier. I don’t want to wait to start reading it.
While both books have been on my must read lists for a long time and I really have enjoyed Fear and Loathing, reading the comments and quotes from Everything is Illuminated has made me really excited for the book to show up at my...

Time-Lapse Thing of the Day: For the 2010 edition of his annual year-long time-lapse, Eirik Solheim placed his old Canon 400D on a windowsill and snapped a single pic every 30 minutes for 12 months, giving him a total of ~16,000 images to work with. He then pared down the photo count to 3,500, and strung them together to create “One year in 2 minutes.”
A complete breakdown of his...

Last night was an incredible night.
I saw The National, one of my very favorite bands, from the front row at Sydney’s beautiful Enmore Theater.
It was a seriously awesome show.
They closed their encore with an acoustic version of Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks, from the front of the stage.
Here it is. Enjoy.
I’ve been feeling really tight with The National this week. Makes me miss...

But I like to be near you, because I feel fine there, and I don’t really feel fine anywhere else. You don’t even really notice me, and that is fine. I always fall in love with strangers -the fantasy of people, not the people themselves. I doubt you are the same way, and that’s even better you know… I need someone who’s head is not always in the clouds. I want to get to know you....

I might very well have a crush on a boy who reminds me of Hunter S. Thompson (in appearance anyway, I know too little about him yet).
Just in time to be half way through Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
… and just in time for said crush to leave the country. *sigh* The universe has a funny way of treating me these days.
Now I might have to go buy all of the rest of Mr. Thompson’s...
Sometimes people surprise you. This is certainly not new news, but somedays the surprise is just a little more welcomed than others.

LCD Soundsystem first up on my shuffle at 7:15 AM this morning. Its only the first Monday but I’m already betting 2011 is going to be better than 2010 ever was.
